This is a quick guide on how to clean your throttle body. The GTi and im sure other 106’s tend to have a rough idle in later life and mine cut out when in neutral a couple of times, could be to do with a oxygen sensor but I tried this and now idles a lot quieter and smoother.

Its quite easy to do and could be done in about 30 minutes.
You will need:
tools to take off your air box or induction kit so screwdriver, phillips screwdriver, spanners?
5mm allen key
carb cleaner (about £4 from halfords)

remove the induction kit or standard air box system right up until the throttle body housing (with housing with the 16v on it or behind the rocker covers on a 8v.) so it should look like this

then take off the throttle so it looks like this (a bit dirty) spray with the carb cleaner all around it, in it, around the edge and in the details. So the back should look a bit cleaner.

Then re-attach it all and it should be cleaner, look nicer, idle nicer and generally maintain your throttle. start her up and rev it. check she runs smoothly.
